Each month we will be featuring an interview with a past president of our organization. It is the past presidents that created the flame that still burns today and whose legacy we must carry on to the next generation of leaders. This month’s feature is Fred James previous owner of Circle Travel. Fred joined the Jaycees in 1958.
As President, what was your greatest accomplishment while in office?
The Beginning stages of The Jaycee Club House, The increase in membership and
all the accomplishments of the community.
Why did you become a Jaycee?
I had just moved to Florida and went to work at Hollywood Ford. We didn’t know anyone, so this was the first and only club that I joined.
What are your hopes and
dreams for future Jaycees?
I would hope that the organization
would revert back to the past with dedication enthusiasm, and desire to better
themselves.
Where would you like to see the Jaycees organization in 5 or 10 years?
What is the most significant project or service you and your fellow Jaycees organized during your term in office? Has this project continued a legacy?
We did about 50 projects in my year most notable were the Women’s Four Ball Golf
Tournament, Miss Hollywood, Mutt Derby, and signs at the Young Circle and Beach
Band Shells.
How have you ensured that the Jaycees continue to be a thriving, respectable community service organization in your area?
Not so much anymore, I am 75 years old,
but I am always available to assist in anyway.
How has the Jaycee organization helped you meet personal and career goals?
First of all it made me a more well
rounded person. It gave me confidence, and it gave me a terrific group of
friends.
Pulling from your history with the Jaycees, what words would you use to describe the Jaycee organization?
A club of opportunity. It will help
young men and women to reach higher potential.
Do you feel that the Jaycees is still a vital part of their community?
Yes! Young people with a purpose will
help any community.
Of our current projects that you are aware of, which do you feel makes the most impact on the community?
I don’t know enough about them.
Is there any 1 Jaycee Moment that sticks out above all others?
